If you are anything like me, you are already planning the next school year. That is just what homeschoolers do. While we have one foot in our current lessons, our minds occasionally wander to the next school year and sometimes the school years, two and three years after that one. That probably happens, because it gives us an excuse to shop. If you like shopping and homeschool products excite you in a manner like no other, you should plan to make a stop at the Nashville HomeSchool Sale (NHS) in May.

Faith Young, NHS Coordinator, has been making plans since January for the 2016 sale. It will be held at the West End Community Church on Tuesday, May 3 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The NHS, now in its fourth year, was an answer to requests from homeschoolers in the area who wanted to shop affordably for their school items like they were able to do when it came to clothing items and other children accessories.

The vocal performance workshop will be led by Mrs. Heather O'Dell who has a B.A in Vocal Music from California Lutheran University.  Her training focused on classical voice which included musical theatre and opera. Students will learn various vocal and performance skills including proper vocal warm ups, how to use a microphone, projection and stage presence.  This workshop will also include a 2 hour session on June 1^st from 9:00 – 11:00 with one of the cast members from the hit Broadway Musical, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Miss Hannah Kohn!  In this two hour session, students will learn a Musical Theatre style dance combination and will have a Q & A session with the cast member.  We have special group rate tickets available for purchase to see Miss Kohn perform in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST at TPAC on June 1^st in the 7:30 PM performance.  At the end of the intensive workshop on June 3^rd at 1:30 PM, they will present a mini-performance to showcase what they have learned in the week.

Homeschool Family Day Camp at Deer Run

If you are looking for a special day your family can enjoy together, register for Deer Run’s annual Homeschool Family Day Camp that takes place on Friday, April 29, 2016 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $10 per person and is free for ages 4 and under. Your family can experience a day filled with a variety of camp activities. A preschool play area is provided for little ones. Activities include…

· Paintball: $10 per person — 1-hr playtime, equipment rental and 1 hopper of paint. Chest protectors/vests & extra paint are available for purchase on site.
 *Minimum & maximum height & weight requirements apply to fit the safety harness on Giant Swing and Leap of Faith. Most 3rd graders meet the minimum requirements.

Advance registration is highly recommended especially for the additional recreation options. Catch & release fishing from the bank is allowed. However, the lake is closed for swimming and other water activities.

Bring a picnic lunch plus a tablecloth, blanket and/or chairs for your family to enjoy on the property. Snacks, beverages, apparel and other merchandise are available at the Camp Store from 12 to 2 p.m. The dining facility is not open for meals. The event takes place rain or shine.
